Dublin Airport (code DUB) is about 12 km north of the city centre. In normal traffic the journey takes 25–35 minutes. During rush hour (7:30–9:30am and 4:30–7pm), allow 50–70 minutes. Aircoach — The 24-Hour Option

Aircoach runs an express coach service between the city centre and the airport every hour of the day and night. This is the most reliable choice for very early morning or late-night departures when regular Dublin Bus routes are not running.

• Route 700: O'Connell Street and St. Stephen's Green to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Runs every 15–20 minutes during the day, approximately every hour overnight.
• Fare: €8 online at aircoach.ie (book in advance to save) or €10 on board. Cash or contactless accepted on board. Luggage included at no extra charge.
• Journey time: 30–40 minutes off-peak, up to 60 minutes in morning rush hour.

Dublin Bus Routes 16 and 41

Dublin Bus also serves the airport via Route 41, which runs 24 hours a day (with much lower frequency overnight) from O'Connell Street — the cheapest option, at the standard €2.00 Leap Card fare, but with several stops along the way. Route 16 connects Ballymount, Tallaght, and the south city centre to the airport and is useful if you are staying south of the Liffey. Taxis and Ridesharing

A metered taxi from the city centre to Dublin Airport costs €25–€35 depending on your location and the time of night. Demand surge on Friday and Saturday nights after 2am can push prices to €45–€55. Use Free Now to hail a metered taxi through the app — it is safer and more predictable than flagging a random street taxi. Uber also operates in Dublin (all drivers must be licensed taxi drivers, so fares are similar to Free Now).

When to Leave — A Practical Timeline

• Flight at 6:00am: Leave the city centre by 3:30–4:00am. Aircoach runs only once per hour overnight and Route 41 is at its lowest overnight frequency, so most students book a taxi or pre-booked transfer for certainty at this hour.
• Flight at 8:00am: Leave by 5:30am. Aircoach has higher frequency from about 5:00am; Route 41 is also running, though still at reduced frequency. Aim to be at security by 6:00am.
• Flight at noon or later: Aircoach or Dublin Bus are both fine. Avoid leaving during the 7:30–9:30am rush — the journey can nearly double in time.
• Flight at midnight or later: Aircoach and Route 41 are both technically running, but at their lowest frequency of the night — Aircoach's hourly service is the more dependable public option. Taxis are available but prices increase late on weekends.

Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?

Dublin Airport has two terminals, about 10 minutes apart on foot, also connected by a free shuttle bus. Terminal 1 serves Ryanair, Aer Lingus short-haul, and most European carriers. Terminal 2 serves long-haul flights and Aer Lingus long-haul routes. Check your boarding pass or e-ticket carefully — arriving at the wrong terminal costs you time you may not have.

Security and Check-In
